This summer, I was given the incredible opportunity to intern over a two-month period in an independent boutique in Spitalfields Market, called The Mercantile London. I cannot even begin to explain how amazing the whole experience has been...
Sadly, I only have a few days left at the shop, but it's safe to say I have loved every second of being there... from stock-taking, helping out on the shop floor, setting up for buyer's appointments, visiting showrooms and even being sent on a wild goose-chase to a non-existent internet cafe, I have covered a wide range of situations and have learnt so much about retail, merchandising and the industry itself. The shop itself stocks a variety of fantastic European brands such as Numph, Nanushka, Dr Denim, Duffy and Near Far, helping to bring them to the streets of London. Here are two of my favourite pieces I manages to pick up:
1. - Dr Denim Jeans - The Mercantile has a soft spot for this brand's collections, stocking all different shapes and sizes in every colour and print imaginable. My favourites are these Black Ice pair, as they are perfect for an outfit day or night, which is just what i've been after!
2. - Sweater Dress, Love Zoe - I'm quite puzzled as to why this NYC brand piece wasn't snapped up earlier - a cosy sweater dress is both an ideal and practical outfit to wear in our British winter season, with the leather shoulder detail adding that extra touch, making it right on trend for the A/W.
I'm really sad my time is coming to an end, and I cannot thank the team enough for what they have done for me! Before I leave them, i'm heading to the PURE 34 trading show at Kensington Olympia on Monday (5th August), which I'm unbelievably excited about! If you are there, come and find me and the shop! More to come on my experience there soon!
